On vehicles with separate pumps for each bank, this affects only the Bank 2 side. On vehicles with a single pump and separate switching valves, this code may indicate an issue with how the pump's operation is being monitored for Bank 2.

The symptoms are similar to P2444 — you will hear the air pump continuing to run long after the engine has warmed up, and the Bank 2 oxygen sensors may detect a lean condition from the extra air being pumped into the exhaust. The PCM may try to compensate with richer fuel mixture, hurting your gas mileage.

Check the air pump relay first, as it is the most common and cheapest cause. Many vehicles use the same type of relay for multiple circuits, so you can swap relays to test. If the pump continues running with the relay removed, there is a wiring short providing direct power to the pump. Address this code promptly — a pump running continuously will overheat and fail, turning a simple relay replacement into a much more expensive pump replacement.
