The P0352 code indicates a problem in the primary or secondary circuit of Ignition Coil B, which serves cylinder 2. The PCM monitors each coil's circuit by measuring the feedback signal when the coil fires. When the signal from coil B doesn't match expected parameters, the PCM sets this code.
This code will almost always be accompanied by a P0302 (Cylinder 2 Misfire) code. If the Check Engine light is flashing, it means active misfires are occurring and you should limit driving to prevent catalytic converter damage. A steady light indicates the PCM has detected the circuit fault but misfires may be intermittent.
Diagnosis is straightforward: swap the coil from cylinder 2 with one from another cylinder. If the code moves to the new cylinder location, the coil is faulty and needs replacement. Ignition coils for most vehicles cost between $25 and $80 each, and replacement takes about 10 minutes with basic hand tools. It's considered best practice to replace the spark plug at the same time, as a worn plug can cause a new coil to fail prematurely.
Severity
Symptoms
- •Engine misfires or runs on fewer cylinders
- •Check Engine light is on (may flash)
- •Rough idle with noticeable vibration
- •Loss of power during acceleration
- •Fuel smell from exhaust
- •Poor fuel economy
Likely Causes
The ignition coil for cylinder 2 has failed internally, with either the primary or secondary winding open or shorted, preventing proper spark generation.
The wiring harness or connector to the cylinder 2 ignition coil has damage, corrosion, or a loose connection disrupting the control signal from the PCM.
A worn or fouled spark plug on cylinder 2 increases the voltage demand on the coil, which can cause premature coil failure and trigger circuit codes.
The internal coil driver transistor in the PCM for cylinder 2 has failed, preventing proper switching of the coil primary circuit.
A corroded or loose ground at the coil or in the ignition system is affecting the cylinder 2 coil circuit.
